FAQ’s

How long does the program run?

The year is divided into a fall, winter, spring, and an abbreviated summer session. See current schedule here

 Where are your classes held?

All classes are held at the pool in the Hanley Center on the campus of Georgetown Prep, 10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, Maryland 20852

 How do I register?

Fill out the Interest Form here and we’ll be in touch!

Do I register for the entire year?

We offer classes in four sessions: fall, winter, spring, and summer. We do not swim in August.

How do I know which classes are appropriate for my swimmer?

We assess each swimmer to fully understand strengths and weaknesses. We then suggest several appropriate classes from which you may choose to fit your family schedule.

 How long are your classes?

Each in-water and deck-coached stroke class is 30 minutes. Training/endurance classes are 60 minutes.

 How often are classes?

In-water and stroke classes are once a week for a half hour. Swimmers who choose to also participate in Training and Endurance sessions can attend between 1-4 hour-long sessions a week.

What is the youngest age you take swimmers for classes?

There is no specific age. The swimmer needs to be toilet trained and able to understand directions and maintain attention for several minutes at a time. Most of our beginning swimmers come to us between the ages of 3 and 5.

Do parents get into the water with beginning swimmers?

No. We teach water safety and swimming skills right from the beginning, and forging a trusting bond with the instructor as quickly as possible is important to your swimmer’s success.

What if my swimmer does not know how to swim?

We assess each swimmer and will suggest appropriate classes. Every one of our 3,000+ swimmers with whom we have worked has learned how to swim.

 How large are the classes?

Classes for beginners are no larger than 3 swimmers; Classes for intermediate and advanced swimmers are no larger than 6 swimmers.

How do I pay for classes?

Tollefson Swimming accepts payment by check at the pool or mailed to our office, or you can call our office to pay by credit card.

If my swimmer is sick or has a conflict, can we come to a different class?

Each swimmer has a regular class every week. If you have a conflict, please notify Henry Tollefson at henry@tollefsonswimming.com  who will, if possible, suggest another class for that week of a similar age group and skill level as your child.

 What is TOLL?

TOLL is the Tollefson Swimming competitive swim team with membership in Potomac Valley Swimming and USA Swimming. We practice multiple times each week and swim meets about once a month.

Can anyone sign up for Team TOLL?

Swimmers must be assessed by coaches or attend a try out session on their skill level first. Must be proficient in all four strokes and willing to commit to a full year of team practices and meets. Information about team TOLL is here
